Description
Aburatsubo Tool Oiler
Japanese craftsmen traditionally kept a small bamboo pot stuffed with cotton wadding within easy reach on their tatami mat work surface. Once liberally loaded with camellia oil, the wadding served as an automatic oiler for chisels plunged into the pot; a small bit of wadding seized between the fingers sufficed for a quick lubricating wipe on saw blades.Fill the reservoir and this modern version of the aburatsubo carries out exactly the same function, with the added convenience of a cap with a built-in felt wick for wiping tools without oiling your fingers at the same time.Unscrew the cap and plunge your chisels into the wadding within just as atategushiwould have done hundreds of years ago while mortising or paring joints.
Also very useful for applying camellia oil to your chisels and fine tools to provide protection against rust. A very handy addition to the contemporary Western shop.
Camellia oil sold separately.
