Tormek’s T-8 sharpener continues this tradition with its completely re-designed housing built on a zinc die cast frame. The zinc alloy casting provides greater precision, rigidity and resistance to rust and corrosion than a stamped steel frame. With the supports for the Universal Support bar fully cast into the cabinet housing, play for the Universal Support Bar is kept to an absolute minimum and ensures precise sharpening results. Impact-resistant ABS polymer panels – impervious to corrosion – complete the cabinet base structure and will assure you’ll have a lifetime of trouble free use.
The includedSE-77 Square Edge Jig that comes with the T-8 is designed for holding your chisels and plane irons. It has greater mass for improved stability along with improved functionality making it easier to clamp your chisel and plane irons evenly, securely and squarely to ensure you get flawless 90 degree edges. It also has an adjustment feature that allows you to sharpen a camber onto your edges.
Improved Water Trough
The water trough is easy to remove and install. The water trough raises and lowers into place with a simple twist of the knob, keeping water spills to a minimum. An included magnetized removable scraper tool makes a no-fuss job of cleaning out metal particles from the trough.
Cool Grinding
Like previous Tormek sharpeners, the T-8 has a powerful and reliable continuous duty AC motor (110 V, 60 Hz) that turns the 10″ 220 grit aluminum oxide grindstone wheel at just 90 rpm. Because the stone spins so slowly and is continuously bathed in water, your tool’s edge is completely free from any risk of overheating. The low rotation rate also avoids slinging water, while the water tray captures the grinding dust, eliminating grinding dust hazards. Once the edge has been ground at 220 grit, the included Stone Grader lets you grade the stone to a 1000 grit finish without changing your jig or tool rest settings or having to change wheels, so your sharpening angle stays exactly the same for the finer cutting wheel surface.
The included leather stropping wheel, charged with stropping paste, effortlessly hones your tools to a final razor’s edge within 30 seconds.
A range of optional individual jigs and jig packages are available to customize your Tormek Sharpening System to suit your needs for sharpening practically every kind of tool in your shop and home including carving tools, wood turning lathe tools, scissors, knives, axes, planer blades, and drill bits. The jigs slide onto the micro-adjustable Universal Support Bar which can be positioned for grinding either into or away from the tool’s edge. Machine weighs 33 lb. Comes with a 7 year warranty.
Warranty
Tormek T-8 Sharpening System is backed by a 8 year (5+3) warranty. It comes with a 5 year warranty, which can be extended to 8 years by registering the machine at Tormek’s website.
