Description
The froe is a simple tool used for splitting straight-grained wood. In use, the blade is driven into your stock with wooden maul or heavy mallet, and the handle is pulled or pushed as needed to direct the split’s runout.
Lie-Nielsen’s froe was designed in cooperation with woodworking expert
Drew Langsner. Unlike most other froes, the blade and handle loop are constructed separately, then welded together. Since the handle loop is perfectly round and the handle has a stepped tenon for mounting, the handle-blade connection is much more robust than most froes. Add a lag screw and washer and you have a froe that’s hard to beat.
