2-3/8 X 12″ Lathe Mandrel (3902-2224) ~ Standard taper of .0005″ per 1′. ~ .001″ undersized on the smaller end. ~ Made of tool steel hardened and ground. ~ These mandrels are work holders that fit through a hole in the work to grasp it. ~ Mandrels are forced into the work using an arbor press and are removed the same way. ~ Two advantages to using mandrels is that they leave no grip marks on the work while maintaining concentricity and they provide tool access to the full length of the work.
