Description

The Speedhut Speedbox w/ Ford Clip-on Cable (A-370) offers a straightforward solution for integrating modern electronic speed signals with traditional mechanical Ford speedometers. This device is particularly useful when performing engine or transmission swaps in classic Ford vehicles, allowing you to retain the original look and feel of your dashboard gauges. By accepting signals from either a GPS antenna (included) or a Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS), the Speedbox converts these electronic inputs into a mechanical rotation that drives the attached speedometer cable.

KEY FEATURES AND BENEFITS:

  • Dual Signal Compatibility: Operates using either GPS signals, providing accurate speed readings without the need for external sensors in some cases, or VSS signals from modern transmissions.
  • Direct Ford Connection: Comes equipped with a 3-foot mechanical speedometer cable featuring a specific “clip-on” connector designed for direct attachment to Ford speedometers.
  • Simple Installation: Requires only basic 12-volt power and ground connections, making the setup process relatively easy.
  • Automatic Calibration via GPS: When utilizing the GPS signal, the Speedbox automatically calibrates itself, ensuring accurate speed readings without manual adjustments.
  • Wide Calibration Range: Supports a broad range of mechanical speedometer calibrations, from 170 to 1650 turns per mile, accommodating various original equipment and aftermarket units. The default setting is 1000 turns per mile, suitable for most US speedometers.
  • Compact and Robust: Features a space-saving design with a combination of plastic and an aluminum bezel for durability and ease of mounting.

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Drive Output Thread: 7/8″-18
  • Drive Output: 0.112″ Square
  • Included: Speedhut Speedbox unit, 3 ft Ford Clip-on Speedometer Cable, GPS Antenna, Power Harness

HOW TO USE:

  • Connect Power: Connect the Speedbox’s power harness to a 12-volt power source and a suitable ground in your vehicle.
  • Attach Speedometer Cable: Connect the clip-on end of the included 3-foot speedometer cable to the back of your Ford mechanical speedometer. Secure the other end of the cable to the output drive of the Speedbox unit.
  • Position GPS Antenna (if using GPS): Place the included GPS antenna in a location with a clear view of the sky. Ensure it is not obstructed by metal. Connect the antenna cable to the Speedbox unit.
  • Connect VSS Signal (if using VSS): If you prefer to use a Vehicle Speed Sensor signal, connect the VSS output wire from your transmission or other source to the designated VSS input on the Speedbox. Refer to the Speedbox wiring diagram for the correct connection point.
  • Initial Operation: Once all connections are made, turn on your vehicle’s ignition. If using GPS, the Speedbox will automatically acquire a satellite signal and calibrate. If using VSS, ensure your speedometer’s turns per mile are within the Speedbox’s adjustable range.
  • Optional Hot Start Connection (if desired): For faster GPS signal acquisition on startup, you can connect the designated “hot start” wire to a constant 12-volt power source.
  • Speed Offset Adjustment (optional): If you need to fine-tune the speedometer reading, you can use the speed offset feature according to the Speedbox’s instructions. Be aware that this may affect odometer accuracy if the original speedometer is already inaccurate.

BENEFITS OF USING THE SPEEDHUT SPEEDBOX W/ FORD CLIP-ON CABLE (A-370):

  • Preserves Original Aesthetics: Allows you to maintain the classic look of your Ford’s interior by keeping the original mechanical speedometer.
  • Facilitates Modern Swaps: Simplifies the process of installing modern, electronically controlled powertrains in older Ford vehicles.
  • Offers Flexible Speed Source: Provides the option of using highly accurate GPS-based speed readings or integrating with the vehicle’s existing electronic speed sensor.
