Turning Tools

Sharp turning tools are the best turning tools. With Tormek’s gouge jig, you can sharpen your turning gouges to a razor edge with complete control. It also includes a special shaft that will hold replaceable HSS turning tool tips for sharpening.

In combination with theTurning Tool Setter , the SVD-186R can exactly replicate the shape of your cutting edge throughout the life of the tool. If you want to re-shape a tool, you can use the SVD-186R with the TormekBGM-100 Grinder Mount to quickly re-grind the edge on your bench grinder, then move back to you Tormek for final honing – without changing the settings on the jig.

Carving Tools

The gouge jig excels at sharpening carving gouges of many shapes and profiles, including V-Tools. It will hold tools up to 36mm (~1-7/16″) wide.

Flat Bevel Knives

Sharpening Knives with a flat bevel (marking knives, chip carving knives, violin knives, etc.) can be challenging. The SVD-186R holds these knives in perfect position to sharpen them on the flat side of the Tormek wheel. (Only do this onDiamond wheels . You should not grind on the side of a standard Tormek grindstone.)

Rotational Locking Screw

TheSVD-186Rhas a screw to lock the jig’s rotation movement. This makes it easier to maintain full control when sharpening carving tools, especially V-Tools. It also makes it easier to sharpen a flat bevel on chip carving knives, violin knives and marking knives.
